New Research Links For many years, doctors knew that certain risk factors -- high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, cholesterol levels (HDL and LDL), smoking and obesity -- increased the probability of a stroke or heart attack...but they were uncertain exactly why. Now they know that inflammation is the key ingredient. In the coming years, you will hear much more about the effect that inflammation has on the risk of stroke and heart attack. You'll also hear about the new inflammatory risk factors of C-Reactive Protein and fibrinogen. But there's no need to wait! Read The Heart Attack Germ now and learn how you can lower your risk of stroke and heart attack by detecting and reducing inflammation in your arteries!

ANNOUNCEMENTS On August 12, 2003 I kicked off a 30-city lecture tour for The Heart Attack Germ at senior centers throughout Southern California and Florida. In late November I met up with Dad (Dr. Louis Dvonch) for a lecture on beautiful Sanibel Island and a book signing at the huge Barnes and Noble bookstore in Naples, Florida, the Gulf Coast town where Dad practiced medicine for 25 years. Dad and I had a wonderful time! Everywhere we went, we were warmly received by the staff and the audience members. The tour was a great success and Dad and I are very grateful to everyone who attended the lectures. Here's a few pictures I took while on tour.
That's me, lecturing in San Dimas, California.
A typical view from the stage!
Here I am with Mario Diaz and Marty
Matthews, co-hosts of "Life Around The Bay" a daily news program on
CBS television station WTSP in Tampa, Florida. While lecturing in the
area, I was invited to be interviewed on their 4:00 p.m. newscast. As you might expect, I was a
little nervous about my first appearance on TV, but shortly before
airtime, Marty spent a few minutes with me, asking questions about the
book in a pre-interview. Yet, that's exactly what happened. When we went live, Ms. Matthews was just as quick-witted and sharp in her questioning as she was off-stage. I quickly forgot about the bright studio lights and any nervousness I had, and lost myself in an interesting conversation, just between the two of us. Before I knew it, the segment was over and I'd said everything I'd wanted to say. If interviewing is an art then Marty Matthews is one of its masters. Tampa Bay is lucky to have her appearing five times a week! And special thanks to segment producer Melissa Liberman, who also handles her demanding duties with great professionalism.
Dad joined me for a lecture in Sanibel, Florida. Here he is answering questions from the audience afterwards. Strokes and heart attacks are serious business, but Dad has the knack of humanizing the subject and giving hope to the people he speaks to.
The next day, Dad and I held a book signing at the Naples Barnes and Noble. Here he is standing in the doorway, ready to begin the event. By the way, Dad celebrated his 84th birthday just three weeks before flying to Florida for the book signing!
Here's Dad at the book signing table. He spoke to everyone who had their copy of The Heart Attack Germ autographed. Many in the audience were long-time patients of Dad's, and were very happy to see him again after he moved to Virginia to write the book.
